I originally trained in medicine and worked for 11 years in the NHS as a doctor and researcher. In 1997, towards the end of my time as a medical researcher, I started to study psychology and psychotherapy, and quickly realised that this would be my life’s work.

I work with individuals as a psychotherapist and supervisor, and am involved in academic research in transpersonal psychology. Recently, I worked as a co-facilitator on WWF's Natural Change Project and on the Ecopsychology post-graduate module run by the Centre for Human Ecology and the University of Strathclyde.

My therapeutic practice is integrative, and includes cognitive behavioural, humanistic and transpersonal ways of working. Central to this integration is my understanding of the human psyche as part of a wider world – ecological, historical and socio-political. I believe that this broader perspective on psychology can help individuals to develop compassion for their own struggles and motivate positive engagement in the wider world.

I’ve lived all of my life in Scotland, and I love exploring the lochs, mountains and the sea.
