As the year ends, people are making resolutions - and trying to be positive about the future.
Sustainability 2.0 seems to be one of those attempts. The idea is that Sustainability 1.0 is all about limits and not doing things. It is generally depressing and bad. Sustainability 2.0 is positive and optimistic - and of course harnesses the power of business for sustainability. No doubt Sustainability 3.0 will be pure unadulterated bliss, requiring no effort whatever.

Which comes first: economy or environment? was a question someone raised in a discussion group at the Scottish Sustainable Development Forum conference.
And it's a fair enough question when we're told the economy is in freefall. Here's a simple way to tell which - ultimately - must come first as we work towards enduring solutions:
If we lose the economy, do we have an ecosystem?
If we lose the ecosystem, do we have an economy? |
