Carbon Base Line Study: Shandon Local Food Initiative

Assessing the carbon emissions associated with food production, purchase, consumption and disposal in the Shandon area of Edinburgh, and developing emissions reduction scenarios.

Situation

Shandon Local Food Initiative is a recently established community group in Edinburgh which aims to address a wide range of social, environmental and economic aspects of food growing, consumption, purchasing and waste disposal, all broadly contributing to a more sustainable approach to food.

The Initiative has been awarded funding by the Climate Challenge Fund undertake a baseline study, and has engaged Footprint to undertake this work.

Project

The purpose of the study is to examine the current patterns of behaviour as regards food production, purchase, consumption and disposal in relation to carbon emissions; and to explore with residents their priorities in developing the Shandon Food Initiative.
